Cover Types

1. Image Based- Image based is the most common cover type used. An "Image Based" cover usually consist of someone looking at the camera or other times it can be a picture of a person from a side angle. These photos can also include nature or food for that type of magazine. Magazines that use "Image Based" covers make the subject clear of what the reader is about to look at throughout the magazine.

2. Illustration Based- Illustraition Based covers consist of drawings or computer animations created for a specific magazine. Ever since the 1920's magazines have used illustration based covers. Drawings were used in the 1900's because they didn't have the technology we have today. Now, we can create animations using a computer.

3. Type Based- Type based covers are uncommon to use and are rare to find on magazine covers, jsut like "Illustration Based" covers. These type of covers have a powerful affect that draws people in. These covers mainly are of lettering and words that are bold and bright and overall pop out at the viewer. These covers are sometimes better than a cover that's of a photo.

4. Concept Based- Concept Based covers is a combination of the three other types of magazine covers. The subject or idea of the cover has to be very easy to understand what the subject is. Like "Type Based" and "Illustration Based" this is also an uncommon type of cover to use since it's a harder type to achieve. These covers can be fun as well, just like the covers for New York Times Magazine. This type of cover is mainly used for business or newspapers/ magazines.
